The Philippines is the 4th most at risk in terms of climate related disasters such as typhoons, sea level rise, flooding and extreme temperature.
Our country experiences 20 typhoons annually and at times low intensity earthquakes. Our country men have mixed reactions and emotions towards this situation. But what comes out of this bad situation is the character of Filipinos which is being resilient .
What is resiliency? Resiliency is defined as being hopeful , happy and positive while experiencing unfavorable and hard situations such as calamities. Filipinos see something good in every bad situation. Despite loss of properties , death of a love one, damaged crops they still remain strong and go on with life. Filipinos always find a way to recover and stand up after calamity.
This is made possible with humanitarian assistance and numerous relief organization who work together to provide immediate response to disaster stricken area.
Our country now has strong set of policies , framework and plans for disaster risk reduction through which work on resilience can be grounded. Local councils are formed and replicate NDRRMC responsibilities. People are trained how to act and respond during disaster and evaluate effects and impacts of the aftermath of a disaster. This even extends  to schools in the form of earthquake drills.
This activities and actions are results of the goal of our government to ensure safety, prevent death and have sufficient knowledge and skill to act on times of calamities.
Let us realize the vision of building back better in order to have communities in a stronger position to with stand in the response of nature.
